Pre-registration is now closed. Please register at the event. (Generally
pre-registration is available through the Thursday before an event.)
NOTE:
For 2010, cost of registering the day of the event has increased (see rates above).
If you pre-register online, the price is the same as last year. Plus,
you'll get a pre-marked map. Pre-registration will open for an event
a few days after the previous event is complete. Pre-registration will generally
close the Thursday before each event to allow time for printing the maps.
Details:
The event will be a Score-O format. A Score-O is an orienteering
event in which the controls may be visited in any order, but time
is limited. Controls may have different point values; greater points
are assigned to controls that are more difficult to locate or that
are greater distance from the start. Find as many points as possible
in any order within the time limit. In this event there will be
30 controls placed throughout the woods with point values ranging
from 1 - 3. There are three time limits offered, short at 45 minutes,
medium at 60 minutes, and long at 75 minutes. But don't go over
the time allowed as points will be deducted for each minute or portion
of a minute that you exceed the time allowed. Be sure to bring a
watch to keep track of your time while on the course.
The course will be scored and timed using electronic punching (e-punch)
for all participants. For this meet the rental price for the e-punch
is lowered to $3 and can be reserved with online registration.
Driving Directions:
Take I-55 (Stevenson Expwy.) 13 miles southwest of the Loop. Exit
at LaGrange Road (aka US-45, Exit 279A), and go south 5.5 miles
to 107th St. Turn right and go west just over a half mile to parking
the entrance to the forest preserve. Turn right and look for the
orange and white orienteering signs to direct you to the registration
area.
Public Transportation:
The hourly #379 bus from Midway airport serves this forest preserve
now. The first bus leaves the Midway CTA station at the end of the
Orange Line at 8:40 and travels south down LaGrange Road (Rt 45)
about 45 minutes later. For Country Lane get off the bus as it turns
onto LaGrange Road at 107th Street, just after leaving Moraine Valley
Community College (MVCC). You will be on the Country Lane map.On
the return, ask someone in the parking lot to drop you at MVCC where
return buses depart every hour all afternoon.
