New Map – Freeman Kame Meagher Forest Preserve and Tomo Chi Chi Youth Campground– Kane Country Orienteering Map – 3 square kilometers - Scale: 1:7500 (14x17) - 3 meter contour interval. Located between I-90 and Freeman Road; north and west of Gilberts, IL. Freeman Kame Meagher (Tomo Chi Chi Knolls) Forest Preserve is a Forest Preserve District of Kane County (FPDKC) property.

Details:

We will be offering the standard point-to-point courses: white and yellow for beginners, orange for intermediate, and red and green for advanced. All courses will have pre-printed maps.

On-line registration is open until midnight Friday, October 20th.

Mapper/Field Checking Notes for Freeman Kame Meagher Woods are linked here.

Self-Regulated Starts for Red and Green Courses. At registration on these two courses participants will only be given a clue sheet. A box of Red and a box of Green maps that have pre-printed courses and clue sheets on them will be located adjacent to the Red/Green Start. This will be a self-regulated Start: A map can be picked up after you have actually e-punched the Start Control. Try to provide separation of at least a minute (or two) between your start and someone starting ahead of you on the same course.

Parking and Staging area will be at the Tomo Chi Chi lodge and campground located within the southern section of Freeman Kame Meagher forest preserve. We have the lodge, parking areas, shelter and campground reserved for the day. Car parking will be in the asphalt lot that holds about 50 cars: bus parking and overflow car parking will be in the large gravel parking area south the main road – you’ll pass by it on the way to the main parking/registration area.

Pit toilets are located south of the main parking area and a couple nearer the campground sites.

Directions:
If you are coming on I-90 (Kennedy Expressway and Northwest Tollway) it is about 43 miles from the Chicago Loop to Randall Road (Elgin/West Dundee/Carpentersville/Sleepy Hollow) exit. Take Randall north 1.5 miles to Route 72 (Higgins Road) then turn left (west) toward the village of Gilberts. Next stoplight intersection will be Tyrell Road, turn right (north). Follow Tyrell Road for approx 2 miles to Freeman Road, turn left (west). Freeman Kame Meagher entrance will be 1 mile on your left (south side of Freeman); look for the CAOC Welcome sign. Follow the gravel road south for about 1 kilometer to parking/registration areas at Tomo Chi Chi.

From the NW Suburbs you can also take Route 72(Higgins Rd.) through East/West Dundee then using above directions west from the Randall Road intersection.

From the West on I-90 you can exit at Route 47 go north .5 mile to Freeman Road (Huntley Outlet Mall) then east to the preserve approx. 1.5 miles on your right.
