Details:
The Big Blues O Fest weekend starts off two short courses (sprints) at Busse
Woods South on Friday afternoon. Each sprint will be 2.0 to 2.5
km in length with winning times in the 15-20 minute range. These
courses are recommended for intermediate and advanced level orienteerers
(beginner courses (white and yellow) will be offered at the meets
on Saturday and Sunday).
ePunch will be used on the sprint courses—bring your own or
rent one for the day. (Traditional paper punch is also available.)
Directions:
The event is located at Grove 32. Take the Biesterfield Road exit
off of highway 53 and head east 600 meters. Turn left and follow
Beisner Road north about 600 m to the forest preserve entrance.
Grove 32 is at the last parking lot on the forest preserve road.
Watch for the red and white orienteering signs to direct
you to the registration area.
Public Transportation:
Starting from the Chicago loop, take Metra to the Des Plaines Metra
station; catch the Pace #208 bus westbound, and ride it all the way
to the end, at Woodfield. Then walk south a block or so to Higgins Road,
and follow Higgins east to the access road for Busse South, just
east of the I-290 expressway. Take the path to Grove #32. Around 6 p.m. the #208 runs
every 30 minutes, and the last bus eastbound leaves Woodfield at
10:24 p.m.
